Bread for the seagulls

It just so happened that we had some leftover homemade bread lying around the kitchen.
So the girls and I decided to feed it to the birds.  Literally.
We walked to the pier and took turns tossing pieces out to the seagulls.  And Faith yelled, "Burd!  Burd!"  (bird!  bird!) over and over as they swooped down to eat.  Both of my girls have always loved birds and get very excited whenever they see one.
And the seagulls swarmed around us trying to catch every tiny morsel.
Grace especially enjoyed tossing it out while Chloe tried to sneak in a few bites.
And after Faith realized what it was we were feeding those birds, she started sneaking big bites, too.
We stayed out there even after all the bread was gone just enjoying a lovely day outside with each other.  Sometimes the simplest things in life can bring the greatest pleasure.

Best way to start the New Year

What better way to start off the New Year
than fishing off our pier?
We didn't catch anything other than small bait fish.
But we enjoyed a spectacular sunset together.
There's no better start to another year than a relaxing one in my opinion.

We went to the pier tonight

And Faith held her first shrimp.
I was a little surprised that she voluntarily held it.
Then we watched a lovely sunset together before heading back inside.

Irene

Hurricane Irene came through our areaearlier.
So we went to the pier to see the aftereffects, if any.
We were surprised to see so much grass piled at the end.  The water level must have been higher than we anticipated.  Nothing was damaged, though.
It stayed windy and pretty cool.
So much so that we were in danger of being blown away!  We didn't stay long but it certainly was nice visiting the pier.

Pier fun after Faith's birthday party

After having our fill of cake and presents, we headed to the pier.
Seth was just dying to go fishing.
Watching him throw the cast net is quite amusing.  He actually puts it in his mouth.  Gross!
Seth wasn't the only one who caught something.  Grace caught a Queenie!
And a Hope.
Then MeeMee, Seth, and I all caught a fish at the same time!  Seth and MeeMee with their poles and me with the cast net.
Soon the sun started to set.
And another wonderful day came to its end.

Fishing with MeeMee and Pappy

We decided to go to the pier today and enjoy the outdoors together.
And try a bit of fishing as well.
It was so beautiful out.
Pappy sat for a while pondering.
Meanwhile MeeMee tossed the castnet a few times trying to catch some bait.
Pappy decided to get some exercise, too.
Then we caught our first fish!
Grace showed us how big it was.
Then she helped her Daddy set that fish free.
Faith convinced MeeMee to get her out of the stroller and let her walk for a while.
And Grace fished some more.  She has progressed to the adult rods - with real hooks!
Then she swung her rod back and exclaimed, "Look guys!  I caught a bait fish!"
Next, Grace insisted on taking a few photographs of everyone.
And MeeMee and Pappy along with Grace, Faith, and David piled onto a bench to enjoy the sunset while waiting for another fish to get caught on a line.
The sunset was beautiful.
But the time spent with family was the highlight of my evening.

Gone fishin'

We went fishing at the pier again today.
Grace hopped in for a ride.
And discovered her Daddy's fishing hat in the pier cart.
Faith liked the hat, too.
Then Grace checked out the crab traps.  And yes, her top is on backwards.  Grace likes it that way.
Then just when we were getting ready to head home
We caught a flounder!
Then we watched the sun set.
And headed home to cook some fish.

It's windy outside

We went to the pier with the intentions of fishing.
And enjoying the sunset, of course.
We were surprised by how windy it was.
Too windy to fish.
So windy that it blew everyone's hair straight back.
Grace told me that the wind was going to blow her Faithy away.  And it might have if she hadn't been strapped in.
Soon the sun disappeared behind the horizon and we went home a little windblown but relaxed nonetheless.
