Mmmm...oops?

This is our kitchen faucet.
I love the way I can pull it out and use as a sprayer.
It's connected by a hose that goes down in the handle.
This morning I turned the water on and pulled on the handle to rinse the sink out.  Notice anything out of the ordinary?  I'll give you a hint:  The handle came OFF.
And then the hose disappeared.  This is all that was left.  I had the sprayer in my hand and an empty hole in the faucet where the handle used to be.  Oh, and a monstrous stream of water spewing out across the room so hard and fast that it hit our 12 foot ceilings.  And blasted me in the face on its way up and out...

I suppose that's one way to wake me up, but I prefer coffee...

SMITH

As you probably remember, I was recently in a wedding in Rome, Georgia.  I really wanted to do something special for the bride and groom since they are a lovely couple and are some of my dearest friends.  So I decided I would take some photos from their wedding weekend and turn it into a sentimental keepsake.

I didn't want to post about this idea until I had a chance to present it to the bride and groom.  (I got the idea from the arts and crafts festival here last year when Melissa came to visit) and I sincerely hope the newly married Smiths like it.  I promise my feelings won't be hurt, however, if it's not hanging in their house when I come to visit.  I still have a few things from my wedding that we aren't fond of but would pull it out for display if the gift givers ever came to visit.  Just to be polite.  Luckily, I haven't had to do that.  Yet.  Seriously though, I hope no one ever feels obligated to pull something out that I've given them just because I'm coming to visit.  I am 100% okay with re-gifting unwanted or unneeded gifts...but I digress...
The idea is to have a collage spell out their newlywed's last name SMITH with various pictures from their wedding weekend.

S - staircase inside Frost Chapel where they were married
M - woodwork inside the chapel
I - the beautiful couple kissing in front of a water fountain after the reception
T - the crossbeams outside the bride and groom's room at the hotel
H - the window frame from inside their bridal suite
I managed to get these photographs for some variation in the letters.

S - cake topper on the wedding cake
M - archway from a building in downtown Rome
I - lamp post from downtown Rome
T - stained glass window above the alter inside the chapel
H - monogram from Melissa's something old, borrowed, and blue

While both sets spell out SMITH, I personally prefer the first arrangement because it seems slightly more subtle using naturally occurring subjects.  By the way, when Melissa and I saw this type of art at the Fairhope arts and crafts festival last year, the artist charged $8 per letter plus $125 for the frame...  And there's no sentimentality attached...

Faith rolled over!

Faith was lying on the floor.
Just hanging out.
Then much to our surprise, she flipped right over to her tummy!
I'm not sure who was more shocked - us or Faith.
And then she rolled back onto her back.  Before we know it, she'll be all over the place...

Shrimpfest 2010

Shrimpfest was in Gulf Shores this weekend.
We went to it for the first time ever and walked around all the booths.
And listened to some of the live music.
There was even fun things to play on although we didn't play.
The newlyweds Mr and Mrs Smith were there, too.
And ate fried oreos.
I kid you not.  Fried oreos.  Only in the South...
Vendors were everywhere.
Hawking all kinds of unimaginable things.
Check out these wagons.
How cute would our kids look riding in this out to our pier?  $550 is way too much but it's a neat idea.
Then we watched the sun sink behing the hotels.
The seagulls flocked for the shrimpfest, too.
There were as many seagulls there as people.
And a pirate ship parked along with cars from all over.
Arrggg!
What a fun family event!

Chalkboard art

I went to Grace's room to check on her and when she saw me, she asked, "Are you mad?"
I replied with, "Why would I be mad?"
She simply pointed at the wall and said, "Yook!" (Look!)
I looked at the wall and then back at Grace and said, "Honey, we're not supposed to color on the walls."
Grace looked at the wall and then back at me and asked, "Why not?  It's a bewful pixur."  (Why not?  It's a beautiful picture.)

What could I possibly say to that?

A visit with Nanna and Gran

We went to visit "Mannah in Dan" (Nanna and Gran) today.
Nanna always has treats ready for the great grandkids.
And tiny little mugs just her size full of juice.
Gran met Faith for the first time today.  Last time we went to visit, Gran was in ICU at the hospital and couldn't see her.  She really enjoyed being bounced on Gran's knee.
Faith was content to sit in Nanna's arms for most of the visit.  Grandmothers make the best seats.
Granddaddy came with us.  He was so silly.  He kinda looks like Pinocchio.
Grace tried to mimic him and found out that clothes pins aren't meant for noses.  Or ears.
Eventually, we had to go home.  But we can't wait to go back for another visit.
